The Jirov Wines Family Is Growing. At Mega Image

Written by Corcova

The Jirov series of wines, launched the last year by Corcova Roy & Damboviceanu, is growing in a consistent way, having now 7 wines, 5 of them being new ones! All these wines are available in the Mega Image network, which has shops all over the country. The new wines are Rose 2012, Chardonnay 2011, Muscat Ottonel 2011, Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Merlot 2010. The new edition of the Sauvignon Blanc, from 2012, is joining them. The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is still available, too.
The name of the Jirov series has to do with their origins, because the vineyards are on the Jirov village hills, a village belonging to Corcova commune, in Mehedinti county.

Corcova, the Land of Wines...

Written by Corcova

The history begins in 1594, when Corcova is mentioned for the first time in an official document: Michael the Brave (Mihai Viteazu) presented two vineyards in Corcova to a local noble. But the glory came much later, when Corcova became the property of the Bibescu family. The noble Anton Bibescu, friend of Marcel Proust, was a recognized figure in Paris, so he succeeded to make known the Corcova name in the European high society of the time.
In 2005, a new Romanian company revived Corcova, buying 100 hectars of land and replanting some noble grape vine varieties. Also, the cellars were completely restored, respecting the original architecture.
The Corcova mineral soil, and the mediterranean climate are perfect for the grapes. The production process is watched carefully, and a lot of work is done manually. So, the tinest impurity is eliminated from the final product, the delightful Corcova wine.
You could find the history of Corcova wines by wathcing the presentation movie, directed by Dorel Mihaila, produced by Havas Worldwide ADDV (ADDV Euro RSCG), with a soundtrack signed Electric Brother featuring Marta Hristea:
Dim lights
Every time we taste a wine, we should remember that its qualities reflect essentially two things: the vineyard and the hard work of men and women...

Choosing the right wine

Written by Corcova

Choosing the wine represents a quite difficult mission and of a great responsibility because the success of a festive dinner depends on it. First of all we should know that the price is not a wine quality guarantee. Of course, nor the bottle and the label aspect. It is not enough, nevertheless it is requested that we know first of all the meaning of the data written on the label. By the law, this should have the name of the producer, of the company which bottled the wine, of the importer (if this is the case), the commercial brand, the variety, the year of harvest, the geographical indication, the type of vinification, the alcohol percentage and the quality category. We have to know that, for be taken in consideration, the wine should have a DOC, a controlled origin denomination.

The Easter wine, tradition and spirituality

Written by Corcova

The wine, the beverage for spiritual delight, carrier of grace and health, is a key element in all important moments of our lives. For hundreds of years, this is the beverage which enrich the Romanian table on the important holidays. Noble, the wine has the most deep religious significations. Let's remember only the Last Supper and the Holy Sacrament, when the wine becomes the blood of Jesus Christ itself. On Easter, beside the painted eggs and the traditional meals, on the Christian table you can always find a good wine. Because even the most tasty and refined meal could not express its qualities if not paired to the fitted wine.
So, enjoy the Holy Easter together with the beloved ones, with good meals and a good wine. Let the miracle of Christ Resurrection bring you warmth, peace and harmony in your soul. Jesus Christ is resurrected! (Photos: Stock.XCHNG)

Great wines in tiny bottles

Written by Corcova

The Corcova wines, already well known to the quality wines lovers, are available from now on in normal 750 ml bottles, but also in tiny 187 ml and 375 ml bottles. The 187 ml bottles have exactly a glass of wine volume, being conceived especially for the premium hotels, for theirs minibars, but also for the airlines companies. The 375 ml bottles are available in restaurants and bars, having a 2 glasses of wine volume, good for the clients who desire to drink a little quantity of wine, but in ideal conditions (for example, for a two person lunch, etc.). They propose a superior alternative than consuming "glass" wine from 750 ml bottles, because these bottles, once opened, don't preserve the rest of wine in the best conditions.
